OpenSCAD online editor

Write OpenSCAD code online and render a three-dimensional mesh in your browser. Inspect the result by rotating and zooming, then save binary STL and the editable SCAD source. The engine runs locally after its initial download.

Processed on your device. No file upload.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste a standalone OpenSCAD script or load the drilled-block example.
  2. Run the tool and review the dimensions, triangle count and 3D preview. Correct any compiler diagnostics before exporting.
  3. Download STL for inspection in your slicer and save the SCAD source for later changes.

Check the built-in example

The demo subtracts a vertical cylinder from a 20 × 20 × 10 block. The cylinder radius is 3 and its height is 12, extending beyond both faces. With $fn=32, the circular opening uses 32 segments. The actual binary STL contains 144 triangles and keeps outer dimensions 20 × 20 × 10. An independent mesh calculation gives about 3719.07 cubic coordinate units. A different segment count changes the polygonal hole and resulting mesh.

The OpenSCAD example subtracts a 32-segment cylindrical hole from a 20 by 20 by 10 block and exports 144 STL triangles.

Processing method

A WebAssembly build of OpenSCAD compiles the script inside a dedicated worker. Its Manifold backend performs the solid operations and exports binary STL. The interface reads the resulting triangle coordinates to calculate the bounding box, then uses Three.js to display the mesh. This is an explicit render started by the button; editing text does not continuously run the compiler. The linked official documentation explains primitives, transformations and Boolean operations. A downloadable engine-source archive includes pinned dependencies, build instructions and patches.

What the result leaves out

Use one self-contained script up to 100 KB. Rendering stops after 45 seconds; the result must stay within 100,000 triangles and 10 MB. Coordinates must be finite and within one million units. External include/use/import resources, surface images, fonts and text(), and the MCAD bundle are unavailable. Compiler warnings and errors prevent an export so that an omitted module is not silently accepted as the intended model. A two-dimensional or empty result cannot be exported here. This editor has no parameter sliders, project storage or printer control.

Checking local processing

The page downloads its compiler assets from this website, then processes source code on your device. Scripts and generated meshes are not uploaded. Check the browser Network panel while rendering the sample: there should be asset requests without a source upload. Cancel terminates an active render. Reset clears the editor and working preview; downloaded SCAD and STL copies remain on your device.

Common questions

Are STL dimensions always millimetres?

STL stores no unit. This interface interprets one coordinate unit as one millimetre; check the same convention in your slicer.

Can I use external libraries or fonts?

No. This version accepts standalone geometry without include/use/import, surface assets, text or bundled libraries.

Does a successful render prove the part is printable?

No. Inspect wall thickness, orientation, clearances and the mesh in suitable printing software.
